Activity 0034
by Krysia Brochocka
Subject Area: Language and role-play
Project: Not connected
Age Range: 3-5

Every child loves dressing up and playing a part. The teacher needs to supply the right stimulus and starting
point with a good collection of remnants and accessories.

  • Who are we going to be today?
  • Is it somebody from a story you heard?
  • Is it somebody you have seen on TV?
  • Are we dressing up for a special event or place?
  • Are we going to celebrate a birthday or go to a party?

[Try to avoid gender stereotypes]

Meeting curriculum requirements:

By dressing up and engaging in role play children are learning to develop their imagination and work together.
It can be a stimulus for language and learning new vocabulary. Manipulation skills are involved in handling the
clothes and accessories. Decision-making and choices are involved throughout.

Tips for Painting:

It is important to take care in presenting the clothes and accessories. Encourage the children to handle items with
respect and to put them away carefully after use. It may be useful to introduce new accessories a few at a time so
that their full potential is realised. If possible, have a safe mirror so that the children can look at themselves.

Useful Reference:

A collection of pictures of people in different clothes.

What you will need:
