   Creative Card Artists are turning to Koloron Art Fabric for many reasons. To handle, it offers a smooth white surface that looks and feels like quality paper. It cuts and folds exactly like paper however compared to paper it is almost indestructible. And when it comes to creative effects they are as exciting as they are endless.

   Almost every colouring medium works on Koloron, acrylics, watercolour, enamels and metallic. Apply with brush, spray or pallet knife. Stamping is also effective and because the surface is really tough, over working, collage and 3D is accommodated.

    A heat gun is used to reshape and distort Koloron.  A low melt point enables attractive effects and textures to be created.

Heating can be both before and after the colouring process, also other materials can be introduced at any time as the creative process progresses. Heating also enables Koloron to be moulded into 3D shapes and textures and small decorative beads and shapes can be made and added to the collage work.

Step by step with Koloron

Creative Cards and 3D Cards;

     PVA will stick Koloron to paper and card, ribbon and natural materials like leaves and dried grasses. Also a thin coating of PVA will secure glitter and sequins. Use Koloron to line heavier cards to create a hinge.

    Fold Koloron and set with a cool iron. Cut Koloron into strips and entwine to create flower and ribbon effects, fabric can be coloured before or after making.  For a faded effect subject the completed shape to a light heat gun. Koloron can be wired; trap the gauge of wire you need between two layers of Koloron coated with PVA.

    When dry you will be able to bend and shape to create flowers, leaves and abstract shapes that can be applied to your cards.

Wired Koloron will also help create 3D shapes like letters and numbers that can then be coloured and decorated by sticking on other materials including felts, glass beads and adhesive pre-printed images.

Pop-ups and boxes;

    because Koloron is a lightweight non woven fabric it can be used for lining and wrapping. Purpose made boxes can be constructed from heavy card and wrapped in Koloron to provide a perfect professional outer surface and inner lining.

    Again colouring can be carried out either before or after construction. And because Koloron can be continuously folded, boxes and pop-up hinges are no problem. Dyes and spray lacquers and spray gloss can create truly stunning results you will be proud of.

Stencils and patterns;

     Koloron cuts easily with a modelling knife and does not fray; therefore it is the ideal material to use for continuously reused stencils for either brushing or spraying. Conversely Koloron is a good surface for stencilling onto. When using water-based paint that dries to a hard finish add a little PVA before applying and the result will flex with the fabric.

Decorative backgrounds and textured finishes;

    these are popular as a base for mounting or framing objects or pictures. You can colour an area of Koloron with mixed media and apply a heat gun. The surface will melt and distort to produce exciting effects, with practice these effects can be controlled and manipulated to the size and shape required.

     A 3D effect is generated which can be mounted onto a card to great effect. Alternatively the result can be cut with a modelling knife into a frame for displaying a photograph or message. Gentle heat will allow Koloron to take an impression of, say, heavily grained timber or other textured surface. The creativity doesn’t stop there, the set result can be enhanced with further decoration until the perfect effect is achieved.

    The distortion of all and any mixed media affected by the heat gun will add to your creative effects and you can experiment endlessly and never exhaust your range of options. One reason why all creative card makers have a small roll of Koloron in their equipment box.
